It is dedicated to Lord Rama, who is a revered figure in Hinduism and is believed to be the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu. The temple is situated at the supposed birthplace of Lord Rama.<br /><br />The construction of the temple has been a matter of historical and political significance in India. The site has been a focal point of religious and political tensions for many years. The Babri Masjid, a mosque that stood at the site, was demolished in 1992 by a group of Hindu activists, leading to widespread communal tensions.<br /><br />After years of legal battles, the Supreme Court of India, in November 2019, ruled in favor of the construction of a Hindu temple at the disputed site. The court also directed the government to allocate an alternative plot of land to build a mosque.<br /><br />The construction of the Ram Mandir officially began in August 2020, with the laying of the foundation stone. The temple is expected to become a significant religious and cultural landmark in India.
